Indira Cancer Trust (ICT) was founded by Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, former Speaker of Parliament, in memory of his daughter, Indira Jayasuriya, to provide comprehensive support to cancer patients and their families. ICT runs over 23 programs addressing the medical, financial, emotional, and social needs of both children and adults affected by cancer.
Suwa Arana – A Place for Healing, the largest project of ICT, is Sri Lanka’s first pediatric palliative care center, offering a nurturing environment for children undergoing treatment. It provides accommodation, therapy, counseling, and holistic support to enhance the well-being of young patients and their families. By implementing Make-A Wish Sri Lanka, ICT expands its mission of holistic care, ensuring that every wish granted brings joy, resilience, and lasting memories to children and their families.
The Wish Journey
Refferals are received from Suwa Arana, Apeksha Hospital or the public via a simple form
Trained wish granters and volunteers engage with the child to explore and record their wish.
Research shows, that a wish can provide improved physical, emotional, and social well-being and bring lasting hope, joy and resilience.

Building Joy before a wish
Before a wish is granted, every selected child in the Make-A-Wish Sri Lanka program receives a specially curated Wish Box-a symbol of hope and anticipation.
- This box is not the wish itself, but a thoughtful gift to mark the beginning of a magical journey. It's designed to uplift the child's spirit, spark excitement, and let them know that something truly special awaits.

When children are living with critical illness, so much of normal childhood is taken away from them — it is exhausting, both emotionally and physically. A wish is something that gives children the opportunity to look outside their illness — it restores hope and joy and creates lasting happy memories for them and their families.
